This is the last blog post before we 'officially' go live this afternoon! Over the last year we have been carrying out research in East London on different subjects related to the hosting of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We've asked people about their hopes and fears for the Games, and any expectations they have. We've contextualised this research by providing information from research and publications about London, health, wellbeing and development, and by providing some histories about other Olympic Games and sports related organisations, as well as the history of the area around the Olympic park.
We've done this to try and create a 'living (digital) archive' of East London and the Olympics. We wanted to set up a living archive a long time before the Games, which we think will help people map any changes or developments. Launching in late 2009, it might be too early to say what is going to happen yet, but at least in years to come people can look back at this material and reflect on it - and make their own minds up about legacy.
We hope you enjoy having a look at this content, and please feel welcome to make suggestions on what you think the archive should have in it, as in this first year this has been a demonstrator project - how should we expand? If you have any photographs of the area around the Olympic Park or any of the five Olympic boroughs, or want to comment on what is happening, or share any memories you have, please send them in to ell2012@uel.ac.uk and we'll post them up on this archive if we can
